Purpose statement

Kuraray makes progress possible through essential polymer chemistry.

Our purpose is practical: create materials that help customers solve difficult product problems while moving toward safer operations, lower-impact supply, and more transparent documentation. Kuraray's innovation culture is not about novelty for its own sake. It is about turning a molecular insight into a film, resin, elastomer, or surface material that can survive qualification, scale-up, and real industrial use.

Chemistry

Kuraray's strength comes from polymer platforms with clear technical identities. PVOH chemistry supports water solubility, adhesion, and film formation. Barrier resin technology helps protect oxygen-sensitive products. Specialty elastomers bring softness, resilience, and processing flexibility. Each platform is developed with attention to the details that matter after the first sample works: moisture control, extrusion window, documentation, regional availability, and the ability to repeat results during commercial production.

Planet

Materials decisions increasingly carry climate, circularity, and waste implications. Kuraray works with customers to evaluate design choices such as downgauging, barrier efficiency, bio-attributed feedstock, recyclable structure compatibility, and lower-solvent processing. We avoid treating sustainability as a slogan. The better conversation is specific: which claim can be supported, which trade-off is acceptable, which data is available, and which path can be maintained once the product leaves the lab.

People

Specialty materials serve many decision makers. Engineers need performance data. Operators need handling guidance. Procurement needs continuity. Sustainability teams need credible disclosure. Compliance teams need accurate documents. Kuraray's role is to connect those perspectives early so that a promising material does not become a late-stage bottleneck. The result is a more disciplined path from concept to qualification and from qualification to repeat orders.

Three commitments guide the next phase.

01

Net-zero progress

We align energy, process efficiency, and supplier engagement with a long-term reduction roadmap while keeping customer documentation practical.

02

Circular material value

We support packaging, mobility, and industrial customers with materials that can improve efficiency, durability, or credible circular design.

03

Inclusive technical partnership

We make specialist knowledge easier to use by translating polymer science into clear trial plans and decision-ready documentation.

Independently reviewed progress

Customers need more than broad promises from a chemistry partner. Kuraray provides structured sustainability disclosures, third-party ratings where available, and a clear path for documentation requests. These resources help procurement and technical teams understand how material choices connect to climate goals, product stewardship, responsible sourcing, and safe use. They also help global customers maintain a consistent evidence base across regions, which is increasingly important when product claims, market access, and investor expectations intersect.
